FORMULA

Required pixels = print inches × PPI

How many pixels is 8 × 11 inches?

An 8 × 11 inch image is 2,400 × 3,300 pixels at 300 PPI. At 150 PPI it is 1,200 × 1,650 pixels, and at 96 PPI it is 768 × 1,056 pixels. There is no single pixel size without a PPI target: pixels equal inches multiplied by PPI.

Is 8 × 11 the same as US Letter?

No. US Letter paper is 8.5 × 11 inches, which is 2,550 × 3,300 pixels at 300 PPI. The half-inch width difference is 150 pixels at 300 PPI. Use the 8 × 11 preset only when the requested finished size really is 8 inches wide; use the US Letter preset for standard Letter paper.

How many pixels does an 8 × 10 print need?

At 300 PPI, an 8 × 10 inch print needs 2,400 × 3,000 pixels, or 7.2 megapixels. This calculation describes resolution; it does not guarantee that the source is sharp or free from compression artifacts.

Why the calculator rounds up

A fractional pixel cannot exist. Rounding each dimension upward ensures the finished file does not fall just below the requested density.
