How to convert pixels to inches
Divide each pixel dimension by the intended pixels per inch: inches = pixels ÷ PPI. A 3,600 × 2,400 px image at 300 PPI becomes 12 × 8 inches. At 240 PPI it becomes 15 × 10 inches; at 150 PPI, it becomes 24 × 16 inches.
Converting only one pixel measurement uses the same formula. Enter the pixel edge and PPI, then clear the optional height field. For example, 1,920 px at 300 PPI is 6.4 inches; no second dimension is required.

How many pixels per inch should I use?
There is no single PPI value built into every image. Effective print resolution depends on both the file's pixel dimensions and the physical size you choose: PPI = pixels ÷ inches. A 3,000 px edge is 10 inches at 300 PPI, 12.5 inches at 240 PPI, or 20 inches at 150 PPI.
For a close-viewed photo or art print, 300 PPI is a common starting target. Use 240 PPI only when the printer or service accepts it, and treat 150 PPI as a larger-print tradeoff that is more dependent on viewing distance. The printer's own specification takes priority.

The image and print have different aspect ratios. Crop or add borders before relying on this result; do not stretch the image.

Effective PPI = pixels ÷ print inches
The checker reports both axes and uses the lower result because that side is the limiting resolution. For example, a 3,000 × 2,400 px image printed at 10 × 8 inches is 300 PPI on both axes. If the two results differ, confirm the crop or border plan before judging print quality; stretching one axis is not a resolution fix.
Can you convert pixels per inch to DPI?
Not with a universal one-to-one formula. PPI measures how densely the pixels in an image are placed at the chosen print size. DPI measures the dots an output device can place in one inch. A printer may use several ink dots to reproduce the color of one image pixel, so 300 PPI does not mean the printer must be set to 300 DPI.
For example, a 3,000 px edge printed at 10 inches is 300 PPI whether the printer's rated output is 600 DPI, 1,200 DPI or another value. Calculate the image PPI from pixels ÷ print inches, then use the image-resolution requirement supplied by the printer or print service. Let the printer driver or production workflow handle the device's dot pattern instead of multiplying the image pixels by its DPI rating.
Which PPI should you enter?
Use the resolution specified by the printer or print service. Adobe describes 300 PPI as an industry-standard target for high-quality prints, but viewing distance, printing process and source detail can change the appropriate value. A calculator result is a size calculation, not a guarantee that a soft, compressed or out-of-focus image will print sharply.

Each row converts one pixel edge. Apply the same calculation to the width and height separately; for example, 3,000 × 2,400 px at 300 PPI is 10 × 8 inches.

Is a 12-inch photo 8 × 12 or 10 × 12?
The label “12-inch photo” identifies only the long edge, so it is not enough to calculate pixels. An 8 × 12 print has a 2:3 aspect ratio and needs 2,400 × 3,600 pixels at 300 PPI. A 10 × 12 print has a 5:6 aspect ratio and needs 3,000 × 3,600 pixels. Choosing the wrong short edge changes the crop even though both sizes include a 12-inch edge.
Ask the print service for both dimensions before exporting. Chinese print shops may use the labels 小12寸 or 大12寸, but that naming is not universal. The Chinese 12-inch photo size guide compares those labels, centimetres, aspect ratios and pixel targets.
How many pixels is 8 × 11 inches?
Use the reverse formula: pixels = inches × PPI. An 8 × 11 inch print needs 2,400 × 3,300 pixels at 300 PPI, 1,920 × 2,640 pixels at 240 PPI, or 1,200 × 1,650 pixels at 150 PPI. These values describe an exact 8:11 aspect ratio before any bleed.
If the source image has a different aspect ratio, reaching 8 × 11 inches requires cropping or adding borders; changing only the PPI cannot change the image proportions. Confirm whether 8 × 11 is the finished trim size and add the printer's bleed separately.
Do not confuse an exact 8 × 11 inch print with US Letter paper, which is 8.5 × 11 inches. US Letter needs 2,550 × 3,300 pixels at 300 PPI, while an exact 8 × 11 print needs 2,400 × 3,300. Does changing PPI add pixels?
No. With resampling off, changing resolution metadata changes the intended physical size while the pixel dimensions stay fixed. Resampling creates or removes pixels, but upscaling does not restore detail that was never captured.
